According to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell, the Atlanta Thrashers have acquired defenseman Steve McCarthy from the Anaheim Ducks. McCarthy has appeared in 302 career NHL games with Chicago, Vancouver and Atlanta, recording 55 points and 168 penalty minutes.
Before his professional career, McCarthy played four seasons of junior hockey in the Western Hockey League from 1996 to 1999, recording 128 points in 154 games with Edmonton and Kootenay. McCarthy was originally selected by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
